Description
Nos 2, 3, and 6 Cromwell Place is a terrace of cottages built around 1754, originally consisting of five cottages. In 1959, the building was converted for use as two offices. The structure is two storeys high and originally had two windows for each cottage. It features a mansard tile roof and is constructed from grey brick with red brick dressings. A moulded brick cornice and a parapet that sweeps up at the ends are notable architectural details. The slightly recessed sash windows are topped with gauged flat red brick arches and have exposed boxing and glazing bars. Three original doors have been replaced with sash windows that match the two surviving doorways, which are adorned with console bracketed hoods and panelled doors. A lead rainwater pipe and head is inscribed with "BM 1754". The interior suggests there was a continuous first-floor passage that served a series of bays, likely used for storage or living units before the building became cottages. A lean-to and extensions for stairs appear to have been added later.
