Description
Lower Raymond Almshouses, built in 1796, is a symmetrical terrace of 12 almshouses located on Newtown Road. A range that was at right angles to this one was destroyed in 1943. The building is two storeys high, featuring one window for each almshouse, with paired entrances. It has a modern hipped red tile roof supported by six red brick stacks. The structure is made of brick, with a coped gable on a slightly projecting centrepiece that includes a lunette in the tympanum. An arched gateway is now blocked. The windows are recessed sash types with glazing bars, alongside some modern casements. The doorways are topped with gabled hoods and rectangular fanlights, and they have panelled doors.
