Description
Bartholomew Close is a pair of early to mid 18th century tenements, dating from before 1768, now divided into three separate occupations. Originally, the building had a winged plan with a courtyard at the rear, but the west wing was demolished in the late 18th or early 19th century. The structure is one-and-a-half storeys tall and features three window fronts facing Argyle Road and Pound Street. It has a tiled roof with moulded brick ridge stacks and is constructed of red brick, with the north facade having been repointed. The large gabled dormers are adorned with fish-scale tile-hanging. The windows are modern three-light mullioned designs with leaded casements. At the rear, there are entrances that include reused 17th century oak panelling in the porches.
