Description
Malt Cottage is a Grade II listed building located in Inkpen, originally two cottages now combined into one. It dates from the 17th and 18th centuries.
The cottage features a south part constructed of painted brick and a north part made of timber frame with brick infill, topped with a thatched roof. It has a rectangular plan, is five bays long, and has one and a half storeys with a half-hipped roof. There are chimneys located in the second and fourth bays, and four eaves dormers are cut into the thatch.
On the west elevation, there is a two-light casement window to the left, a door located under the chimney, a three-light casement and a two-light casement in the central bays, and a door with a two-light casement in the right-hand bay. The casements are an irregular mix of 18th and 19th-century windows.
The interior has not been inspected. Malt Cottage is recognized for its substantial representation of the evolution of vernacular building traditions from the 17th and 18th centuries.
