Description
The Corner House and Surgery, originally two separate buildings facing The Wharf, dates back to the mid-18th century for the western house, which predates 1768. An early 19th-century block was added to the eastern side, making up the eastern house. The structure is three storeys tall with a double pile plan and a hipped tile roof. The western house is likely timber framed, featuring a rendered south front and tile-bung cladding. It has flush framed, segmental-headed sash and casement windows, some of which have glazing bars. The eastern house, added before 1837, is two storeys high with dormers and has a double front with three windows. It features a hipped tile roof with a brick stack and is constructed of stuccoed brick with a dentil eaves cornice. There are two flat-headed sash dormers and recessed sash windows with sidelights and glazing bars. The north ground floor window has been altered. The central entrance boasts a wooden doorcase with panelled pilasters supporting an entablature, along with a doorway that includes sidelights, a patterned radial fanlight, and a raised and fielded panel door. A room on the first floor to the north has a notable doorframe and dado.
