Description
Donnington Castle is a Grade I listed castle dating from 1386. It is constructed of quarry flint and chalk with stone dressings, and some repairs have been made using brick. The castle features a ruined courtyard that includes the remains of six towers. The gatehouse is located to the east and is possibly designed by Henry Yevele. The structure has three storeys, with two circular towers at the eastern corners that rise through four stages, each having a plinth and a battlemented parapet. On the eastern side, there are two square-headed windows with a moulded four-centered arch beneath them.
Inside, the gatehall boasts a two-bay lierne vault, which is adorned with moulded ribs, cusped panels, and carved bosses.
