Description

No 6 High Street is a former school, now a dwelling, built in the mid-19th century by G.E. Street. The building has one and a half storeys and features an old tile roof with decorative ridge tiles. It is constructed of red brick with blue brick bands. To the left, there is a large gable with a parapet, stone coping, and a finial, while a modern garage door has been cut into the face of the building.

On the right side, there are three small gables, each with parapets, stone coping, and finials, positioned above the first-floor windows. The windows are paired casements with pointed heads, separated by a stone column with a leaf capital, and are set under a single pointed brick arch highlighted in blue brick. A patterned blue brick band runs along the first floor. The ground floor features two pointed-headed doorways with boarded doors, alternating with two pairs of windows similar to those on the first floor, but set under larger pointed arches with blue brick decoration and bands at the springing.

At the rear, there are two school rooms that extend at right angles to High Street. These are single-storey brick structures with stone dressings and slate roofs, featuring parapet gables and a moulded stone eaves cornice. The windows are mullioned and transomed, flanking a central door with a stone surround and a flat pointed head under a label mould, which has tracery in the spandrels. Above the door, there is a stone tablet, and the gable wall displays "VR MDCCCL" in blue bricks.
