Description

The Brimpton War Memorial is a war memorial unveiled in 1921, made of Cornish granite. It stands approximately 12 feet high and features a Celtic cross atop a tapering shaft, which rests on a two-stepped octagonal plinth. Surrounding the memorial is an oval-shaped course of stone walls and railings, with an opening to the north that is believed to be a 21st-century addition and is not included in the listing assessment. The front, or north face, of the shaft is inscribed with the following text:

"THESE MEN/ OF BRIMPTON/ WHOSE NAMES ARE/ HERE INSCRIBED/ GAVE THEIR LIVES/ FOR FREEDOM/ AND HONOUR/ IN THE/ GREAT WAR/ 1914-1918/ (NAMES)/ THEIR NAME LIVETH FOR/ EVERMORE."

Additionally, the top step of the plinth was later inscribed with "1939-1945/ (NAMES)."
