Description

Sarcens is a cottage dating from the 16th century, with later additions, located in Upper Lambourn. It has two storeys and features a thatched roof that slopes down between the first-floor windows. The front is constructed of sarsen rubble and brick, with some timber framing visible at the rear. The building consists of two structural bays, with the right bay dating from the 17th to 18th century, featuring squared sarsen and brick quoins.

The first floor has three modern casement windows, while the ground floor has four irregular casements and a six-panelled stable-type door positioned to the right of centre. To the left, there is a small one-storey bakehouse extension from the 18th century. At the rear, there is a small extension with a catslide roof.

Inside, the cottage has chamfered and stopped beams in the central two bays, and the roof is supported by queen post and strut trusses. A tie on the truss between the right end bay and the right central bay has mortices for a diamond mullion window.
