Description

PRIEST HILL 1. 5128 St Anne's Well-head and drinking bowl SU 7175 10/280 II 2. Date not ascertained. Probably of mediaeval origins, present structure probably mid C19. Now dry. The well-head is a circular brick structure with a stone tablet and drinking fountain and is early C20. A tablet states that the well was formerly a place of pilgrimage on account of the supposed healing properties of the water. Disused drinking bowl below tablet. The well-head is covered by a grille of iron bars (oval in section) and crowned with an iron cross. Stepped base.
