Description
The Gravediggers Public House is a public house built around 1850, located on Highland Road in Southsea, Portsmouth. The building is finished in stucco and features a slate roof that is hipped on the right side, with rendered stacks on both the left and right sides of the front pitch. It stands two storeys tall and has three bays, although the centre bay is blinded.
On the left side, there is a six-moulded panelled door, while on the far right, there is a three-panelled door, each with an overlight above. Between these doors are two public house windows, each set under a flat arch with rounded corners and a moulded panel below the sill. The doors and windows are flanked by panelled pilasters, and there is a fascia and a moulded dentil cornice above.
On the first floor, the flanking pilasters support a four-pane sash window on both the left and right, each featuring a moulded architrave and keystone. In the centre, there is a painted panel depicting two gravediggers, along with a band cornice and a panelled coped parapet above. Additionally, there is an attached lantern at the top of each ground floor pilaster. The pub front extends to the right, facing White Cloud Place.
