Description
These are four terraced houses located at numbers 80 to 86 King Street, Southsea, dating from around 1850. The houses are built of red brick in a Flemish bond pattern, with yellow stock brick used for the quoins and window surrounds. The roofs are mansard style, covered in Welsh slate, and feature brick stacks positioned to the right of number 80, between numbers 82 and 84, and to the left of number 86. The houses have two storeys, a basement, and an attic, with six bays, although bays two and five have been blocked.
A recessed two-panelled door with an overlight and four steps with attached railings is set back between numbers 82 and 86, and similarly between numbers 80 and 84. Each pair of doors, serving numbers 80 and 82, and numbers 84 and 86, are within a wide, central porch, featuring flanking pilasters and a cornice. On the first floor, twelve-pane sashes are present, each beneath a flat-rendered lintel. The sash window to the right of number 84 is margin glazed. The window openings above each porch are blind. The exterior details include a paired dentil course and a stone-coped parapet. Twentieth-century flat-roofed dormers have been added. Twentieth-century restored attached railings are present to the fronts of the properties. The interiors were not inspected during the listing process.
