Description

Church Farmhouse is a house that dates from the 16th century and 17th century, with later restorations in the mid-1970s. It is constructed of rubble stone with timber framing on the upper storey of the northern part. The building features old tile roofs that are hipped on the main block and has rebuilt brick chimneys. It stands two storeys high, with an attic in the northern wing. The oldest section is the central two-bay part that runs east to west. The restoration included reconstructions of original small oak mullioned windows and copies of 19th-century casements in the east wall, all fitted with leaded glazing. The northern wing has a jettied gable with close-studded framing and angle braces, along with a stone mullioned window on the ground floor. The southern 18th-century wing now has exposed stone and modern leaded windows. Adjacent to this is a timber-framed bay that incorporates old timbers from a former outbuilding. Inside the northern wing, there are two fireplaces with moulded jambs and four-centred arched heads, likely from the early 17th century.
