Description
The buildings at 20 and 22 High Street, along with the rear cottages 22A and 22B, date to the 18th century, with later alterations. No. 20 is dated "MJM 1770". The construction is stone, with an old tile roof, higher on the right-hand side, featuring two brick stacks and one flat-roofed dormer. The buildings have a central carriage entry marked by a stone arch, with a sash window positioned above.
No. 20, situated to the south, has a central six-panelled door, sheltered by a flat hood with decorated sides, supported by scrolled wrought iron brackets. A 19th-century square bay window is on the right-hand side, featuring elegant colonettes with shallow arched heads and an entablature above. A 19th-century sash window with a flat stone arch is to the left. The first floor has two sash windows; the right-hand one has altered glazing, flanking a blank recess above the door. A stone wing is attached at the rear, forming the south side of a yard.
No. 22, located to the north of the archway, has a six-panelled door with a hood similar to No. 20, and a four-pane wide sash window to the left. There are two three-pane sashes on the first floor. A stone range at the rear, divided into two cottages with modern casement windows, forms the north side of the yard.
