Description

The war memorial in Newport Pagnell was inaugurated on 17th October 1920 and restored in 1999. It is constructed from ashlar and features a tall octagonal drum base with a moulded cornice and foot moulding, which sits on an octagonal plinth that has a shallow Gothic inscription. The drum supports an octagonal broached shaft topped with a carved head in a traditional style. Four faces of the shaft have aedicules depicting the Crucifixion, St Paul, St Peter, and the Madonna. The names of victims from the Great War and subsequent conflicts are listed on applied panels on the drum. The upper section of the drum, along with the surrounding low stone wall and iron railings, are new additions.
