Description
No 10 High Street is a former house, likely with a shop, that now serves as offices. Some parts of the building may date back to the early 16th century, but it was mainly rebuilt in the 17th century with significant later alterations. The structure is timber framed, although the details of the framing are not visible, and it features a Kent tiled gable-end roof. The building is positioned end-on to the street and has two storeys with a gabled attic. The ground floor includes a late 20th-century shop front and a recessed doorway. The first floor jetties out, and both the first floor and attic are covered with all-over plaster render. Each upper floor has one tripartite window, with segmental heads; the first-floor window includes a horizontal glazing bar. No 10 is set further forward than No 8, and its side wall incorporates the returned yellow brick wall of No 8, which features blocking courses, dentilled eaves, and a dummy first-floor window. This wall also functions as an external chimney stack for No 10, topped with clay pots above the eaves cornice.
