Description
The former north entrance lodges and walls at HMS Pembroke were built between 1897 and 1902 by Sir Henry Pilkington. Constructed from brown brick with stone dressings, the lodges are square in plan and flank the entrance, with walls extending 80 meters to the northwest and 40 meters to the northeast.
The exterior features walls with projecting buttressed piers. The two lodges are set diagonally, each with central recesses that rise to full height, topped with coved, battlemented stone parapets. The lodges have half-glazed doors, although the east lodge's door is blocked, and segmental-arched windows with splayed reveals.
These structures served as the north entrance to HMS Pembroke and were part of a complete early 20th-century naval barracks that included the Captain's House, Mess block, barracks, and other ancillary buildings. The interior has not been inspected.
