Description
The remains of a summer house, dating from the 17th century, are located in the garden 25 metres east of Restoration House. This structure features a covered seat and incorporates elements of an earlier gazebo or summer house. It has a timber frame with brick nogging and is set against a brick garden wall, topped with a tiled roof. The building includes various pieces of panelling, with one side wall displaying turned balusters and a half-timbered gable wall that jetties on 17th century console brackets. Although associated with Samuel Pepys, it is likely that the summer house was reconstructed from older pieces by Mr. Aveling, the late 19th century occupant of Restoration House.
