Description

The Hogarth Inn is a public house located on High Street in Isle of Grain. Originally built in the late 16th century, it has undergone alterations in the 20th century. The building features a timber-framed structure with a hipped tiled roof and stands two storeys tall. On the first floor, there are four horizontal sliding sash windows, while the ground floor has three square bays from the 20th century. The west end of the building is constructed of brick and includes a large stack and two brick mullioned windows, which are now blocked. The east end has a catslide extension. Inside, the floor beams are chamfered and stopped throughout. The inn was known as the Cock Inn when it was visited by William Hogarth and his party in 1732, and drawings from this visit still exist.
