Description
Victoria Cottage is a small two-storey villa located on York Avenue in East Cowes, dated 1843. It was occupied for some time by Cubitt during the construction of Osborne House. The villa is finished in stucco and features a plinth and a band between the storeys. It has a low-pitched gable-ended slate roof with deep bracketed eaves and tall banded chimney stacks at both ends. The eaves are raised in a low-pitched gable at the center, which contains a shield inscribed with the name and date of the building.
The facade is symmetrical with three windows; the outer windows slightly project from both storeys and feature recessed sashes with intact glazing bars. Each window has cornices on block consoles above and fretted blind boxes. The central window is framed with an architrave and opens onto an elaborate cut and fretted wool balcony with a canopy and splat balustrade, supported by wooden brackets. The central porch is supported by chamfered columns and has a frieze and a shallow projecting cornice. The door consists of four flush panels, two of which are glazed. There is a single-storey extension to the south of the main building.
