Description

This is a former rectory, now divided into separate units, dating from the early 18th century, with alterations and a refronting in the late 19th century and further window replacements in the 20th century. The north, or garden, front has a central section built of ashlar and a western wing dating from the early 19th century, constructed of coursed rubble and covered by a tiled roof. The building has brick chimneystacks. The central section is two storeys high and features three 12-pane sash windows with thick glazing bars, set within stone architraves and keystones. A modern door replaces the original in the stone doorcase. The western wing, also of two storeys and with attics, has a half-hipped gable and one window. It features stone coping with kneelers. The attic window is a casement within a moulded architrave, the first-floor window is a 16-pane sash, and the ground floor has a five-light window of the late 18th century. The east wing, dating from the late 19th century, is built in matching materials and style to the western wing. The south, or main, front is also from the late 19th century, constructed of stone rubble with ashlar dressings. It has two central gables, each with two mullioned windows (four-light on the first floor) and an obtusely pointed arched doorcase with a hoodmoulding. The wings are set back from the main part of the building. Originally, the central section served as the rectory, with parish rooms added to the west in the early 19th century. Later in the 19th century, an east wing was added as a service wing, while the living accommodation was extended to the front.
