Description
Upper Houses consists of four cottages located in Chale. Cottages 1 and 2 date from the late 17th century, while cottages 3 and 4 are likely an 18th-century addition, slightly taller but designed in a similar style. The cottages are constructed from Isle of Wight stone rubble and feature a tiled roof with brick chimney stacks. They are two stories high with attics in the gable ends. The building has a total of nine windows arranged in a 4:5 pattern, with some windows framed in 17th-century surrounds, although there are also 20th-century windows present. The cottages have a deep plinth, and the south gable is adorned with stone coping, kneelers, and dripstones above the windows.
