Description

Medina View, formerly a boathouse, dates to 1882 and was originally built as part of the East Cowes Coastguard Station. It was later converted into three houses and has undergone 20th-century alterations, including replacement windows and an extension. The building is constructed of yellow brick in a Flemish bond pattern, with red brick lintels and a slate roof, topped with yellow brick chimneystacks.

The asymmetrical design features one to two storeys, with an attic in part, and an irregular arrangement of pointed arched sash windows, many of which have been replaced with uPVC. The north-western elevation has a projecting gable with kneelers, a triple window on the first floor, and a wide ground floor arch that was originally for boat storage, but is now filled in and has a window inserted. A smaller projecting gable to the right includes a single window on the first floor and a later bay at ground floor, associated with a lean-to concrete extension. To the south-west are two single-storey gables with wide arches, originally for boat storage, now filled in and with windows inserted in the later 20th century. A further single-storey range extends to the north-west, featuring end gables and some altered windows. The building is notable for its group value alongside other elements of the original coastguard station, including the cottages, former officers' house, and former washhouse.
