Description

Brock's Lodge is a Gothic-style lodge, now functioning as a house, dated 1864 according to a plaque on the rear gable. It was built as part of the Osborne estate to manage the gates at the intersection of the estate's boundary drive and the public road. The building features polychrome brickwork, combining yellow bricks with horizontal bands and red brick diaper-work, along with a timber-framed gable and a slate roof topped with brick chimneystacks.

The lodge is asymmetrical and L-shaped, consisting of one storey and attics. Most windows are horned sashes without glazing bars, set in Caernarvon arches. The entrance front faces east and includes a projecting timber-framed gable on the left, adorned with fretted bargeboards and eclectic framing featuring crisscross decoration and carved Tudor roses. A large three-light window is located on the first floor, though the central part was replaced in the 20th century. The other windows remain original sash windows. To the right, there is a slightly projecting gable with a plaque displaying the royal coat of arms and paired sash windows. The central porch is gabled and has an original half-glazed door.

On the south elevation, which faces the road, there is a right-side gable with fretted bargeboards and another plaque with the royal coat of arms. This side features one sash window on the first floor and paired sash windows on the ground floor. A prominent external chimneystack in the center showcases elaborate patterned brickwork and three castellated terracotta chimneypots. The west or rear elevation includes a projecting gable on the right with a datestone and a recessed gable on the left, both featuring fretted bargeboards.

Overall, Brock's Lodge is an elaborate example of Gothic-style architecture, built with polychrome brickwork and an eclectic timber-framed gable.
