Description
This is an early to mid-19th century house that was originally built with a shop on the ground floor. The principal, north-facing elevation is constructed of vitrified purple-grey brick laid in a header bond pattern, with window surrounds and quoins made of red brick. The windows have timber sash frames. The pitched roof is covered with slate, and there are brick stacks.
The building is roughly square in shape, with a long, narrow extension to the southeast. It is three storeys high. The ground-floor shopfront features a recessed central glazed door flanked by canted plate-glass windows with arched transom lights. Slender colonettes mark the corners, and the stall risers and fascia are plain. Doric pilasters with fluted capitals frame the shopfront; a third pilaster creates a doorcase to the east, containing a recessed door of six fielded panels (with the central panels glazed), topped by a rectangular fanlight. At the first floor are two large oriel windows. The second floor has four square windows with two-over-two sash frames. A seam of red brick indicates a slight change in plane, where the facade steps back to align with the adjoining building. The rear of the building is enclosed by other structures.
