Description
The Eagle Tavern is an early 19th-century building located on the south side of High Street. It is a three-storey structure with an attic, constructed from gault brick and topped with a mansard slate roof featuring five dormers. The building has a parapet and cornice, with six windows on the first and second floors, including one in a rounded eastern corner. These windows are recessed and are sash type with glazing bars. The ground floor has modern shop fronts and a late Victorian bar front for the Eagle Tavern, which features small cast iron balconies at the first-floor windows. The adjoining house in St Thomas's Square is part of the same premises and is built of purple grey brick with red brick dressings. It has two recessed sash windows, only one of which has glazing bars, and narrow windows have been added to the west on the ground and first floors, along with a later door that has a flat brick arch.
