Description

This is an early 19th century row of cottages located on St John's Road. Numbers 57 and 59 were originally a single house. The cottages are built of chequered brick with red brick dressings. Numbers 65 and 67 are three stories high, while the others are two stories. They have gable end slate roofs with a shallow wood eaves cornice. Each cottage has one sash window, the majority retaining their glazing bars, set within moulded flush wood frames and flat brick arches. Numbers 57 and 59 feature a central recessed door consisting of six fielded panels, set within a doorcase of thin strips and a bracketed hood. Cottages 61 to 67 have recessed panelled doors with fanlights above and basket handle brick arches. Numbers 57 to 83 (the odd numbers) form a group.
