Description
Numbers 30-37 Kensington Place are a group of terraced houses built around 1835. They are constructed of stucco with 20th-century tile roofs. Each house has two storeys over a basement and a single window. The ground floor is rusticated up to a moulded storey band. They have flat-arched entrances with overlights and simple doorcases, and flat-arched windows to each floor. Ionic pilasters are positioned between each house, supporting a cornice and blocking course. Party wall stacks are present, although many have been altered. The properties are accompanied by cast-iron area railings. Number 30 retains an original panelled door, while Number 31 has original sash windows to the ground and first floors. The rustication has been removed from Number 34. The interiors have not been inspected. According to Carder’s Encyclopaedia of Brighton, this is a notable example of mid-19th-century terraced housing.
