Description

No. 87 London Road is a terraced house, although it was designed to be detached. It was built between 1822 and 1830, likely by architects Amon Wilds and Charles Augustine Busby, and has later additions. The building is constructed of stucco, with render on the wings, and features a slate roof.

The house has two storeys and a five-window range. The central section is double-fronted with three windows and is topped by a hipped roof. There are two wings, slightly set back on either side, which are finished in render and have parapets; these are likely later additions from the same period. The ground floor of the main part of the house showcases banded rustication, with four fluted Ionic pilasters flanking the three central openings. The entrance is round-arched and includes a fanlight, while the entrance and the flat-arched ground-floor windows are set back under round arches. There is a stucco band featuring ornate guilloche ornament, and the first-floor windows are original sashes. The eaves are boxed, and there are side stacks. The wings include a flat-arched entrance to the left with an overlight and flat-arched windows with splayed reveals. The interior has not been inspected.
