Description

Nos. 1, 2, and 3 St Peter’s Place are a group of terraced houses dating to around 1825, likely designed by Amon Wilds and CA Busby. The buildings are constructed of stucco and granite, with the roof hidden behind a parapet.

No. 1, now a bank, has a three-window facade facing St Peter's Place and a three-window facade facing London Road. The ground floor has been altered around 1900 to accommodate the bank, featuring a flat-arched entrance in London Road flanked by blocked granite Doric columns supporting an entablature and open segmental pediment. The ground floor is decorated with banded rustication, while the windows to the left are flat-arched and those to the right are round-arched with coved reveals, with the London Road windows framed by granite Doric columns. There is a cornice above. The upper windows are all flat-arched, and a four-storey segmental bay projects to the left in London Road. In St Peter’s Place, the first and second floors are flanked by Ionic pilasters, with an entablature present on both frontages. An additional attic storey sits above, with a secondary cornice and parapet completing the exterior.

Nos. 2 and 3 appear to be incorporated into the bank and lack an entrance and a balcony respectively. The ground floor of Nos. 2 and 3 is rusticated. No. 3 has a round-arched entrance with a fanlight and a balcony to the first floor with cast-iron railings. All windows are flat-arched, and the first and second floors are flanked by Ionic pilasters and feature an entablature. These buildings also have an attic storey, secondary cornice, and parapet, topped by end stacks.
