Description

This is a villa, built around 1845 and altered in the mid- to late 20th century in the attic and basement. It is constructed of stucco over brick, with a slate roof, cyma-shaped brackets to the eaves cornice, and rendered stacks rising from the eaves on the returns. The building has a double-pile plan, and comprises two storeys plus an attic over a basement, with three bays. A central, flat-roofed dormer has been inserted into the roof. The first floor has 12-pane sash windows in lugged surrounds, with cast-iron window box guards. The ground floor has canted bays, shallow stuccoed hoods, a moulded cornice, and projecting canopies. Original cast-iron balconies and 12-pane sash windows with 4-pane sidelights are also present. A central, flat-roofed Doric porch is surmounted by a figure of a recumbent lion, and it leads to a door made of six raised and fielded panels. A garage has been inserted into the basement on the right side. A rendered dwarf wall with 20th-century railings and square piers is attached to the villa.
