Description
The walls set against the party wall of numbers 101-103 on High Street are likely from the late 15th century or early 16th century. They consist of three sections of walling built on continuous foundations, made of chalk block alternating with knapped flint. There is an inset basal line of later brickwork, all resting on foundations of chalk block and Reigate stone block. The three sections measure 1.68 meters, 1.49 meters, and 4.21 meters in length, rising to a maximum height of 2.10 meters above street level. Their original function is not known, but their proximity to a notable Medieval Church is significant, and they relate to other foundations excavated at number 101 High Street.
