Description

Downe House is a building dating from around 1780, constructed of brown brick with yellow dressings. It stands three storeys high and is three bays wide, featuring two-storey splayed bay windows on either side. The building has a modillion cornice and balustrading above, with round-headed windows above the bays and square-headed sash windows elsewhere. A 19th-century porch with a heavy entablature is supported by Doric piers, and there are cast-iron balustrades at the first-floor windows. This house was once the residence of Richard Brunsley Sheridan.
