Description

The Church of St Matthias, situated at the corner of King’s Road, Church Road and Mount Ararat Road, was built in 1858 by Sir George Gilbert Scott. It is constructed of ragstone in a Gothic style. The church comprises a nave and aisles, a lancet clerestory, a chancel, and an apse. A prominent north-west tower rises to a tall spire. The tower features a buttressed base stage, angle buttresses above, tall traceried belfry windows (a pair on each side), a traceried parapet, and a tall, octagonal broach spire. A wheel window is located above the entrance porch.
