Description

Limes House is a substantial two-storey residence dating to circa 1720, with the front facade likely dating to circa 1770. It features a hipped, slated gambrel roof with three dormers. The main block is five windows wide, with a shallow central bay projection. A central Roman Doric portico, topped with a triglyph frieze and featuring paired columns, provides the main entrance. Later wings extend to either side, lacking attics. The river frontage mirrors the design, incorporating a similar portico. The interior includes a spacious entrance hall with good doorcases and a staircase dating to circa 1720-40. A painting of the house exists in the collections of the Frick Collection, New York, and the National Gallery, Washington.
