Description
The Old School House is a house with an attached school, dated 1731, with later additions. It is constructed of brown brick with red dressings and features a machine-tiled pitched roof that reaches the eaves. The building has two storeys and a west facade comprising three bays. The central entrance is square-headed and has a gabled hood, leading to an old planked door. The windows are segmental-headed sashes with glazing bars. Above the entrance, the central bay is blind and has an inset stone with the inscription: 'This School House was Erected at the Expense of Mrs Elizabeth Gardiner deceased daughter of George Garth Esq in the year 1731. The ground on which this school stands on was the gift of Mrs Elizabeth Garth, wife of the late Richard Garth Esq.' There are 19th-century additions to the east and south facades.
