Description

The boundary wall to the rear of numbers 33-59 Queens Avenue, including the boundary wall to the rear of numbers 13-23 Queens Way in Hanworth, dates from the mid-17th century. It is constructed of red brick laid in a mix of English and Flemish bond.

The north side of the wall, located west of Elizabeth Way, features seven raking courses at the top, which decrease the thickness of the wall beneath coping bricks set on edge. In the center of this section, the raking courses have been rebuilt as a set-off. The south side of the wall does not have raking courses or a set-off.

The wall is bisected by Elizabeth Way, which has a pair of late 20th-century brick arches over the pavements on both the east and west sides. The eastern part of the wall is designed similarly to the western section but has a set-off and is lower in height. A section of the wall has been demolished between numbers 5 and 13 Queens Way, with the wall resuming at the eastern boundary of the garden of number 5 and extending up to an outbuilding attached to The Gate House. The houses on Queens Way, Queens Avenue, The Gate House, and its outbuilding are not included in this listing.
