Description
The Towneley and King Memorials are two chest tombs located approximately 18 to 21 metres south of the south porch of the Church of St Nicholas. They date from the late 18th century. The chest tomb on the east commemorates John Towneley, who died in 1782. It is made of brick and sits on a stone plinth, featuring a stone inscription panel, a moulded lip at the top, and oval end panels. The chest tomb on the west commemorates Elizabeth King, who died in 1771. This tomb is also made of brick, resting on a beaded stone plinth, and includes a stone inscription panel and a moulded lip at the top.
