Description

129 and 130 Brentford High Street are a pair of houses that date back to around 1700, with some alterations made in the 19th century. The buildings are constructed of brick, with the front and side rendered, and feature a tiled roof. They have a rectangular plan consisting of three storeys, along with a one-and-a-half storey outshut at the rear. Access to the upper floors is now through No 130. Each house is two bays wide, with No 130 slightly projecting and having a higher roof.

The ground floor has a Victorian shopfront that includes a raised fascia cutting into the first floor, which is supported by a single giant Corinthian column in the centre. No 129 has a late 20th-century door that is not of interest, while No 130 features a side door that is six-panelled and may date from the 18th century. The upper windows are notably wide for their height and display a mix of early and mid-19th century glazing within moulded architrave surrounds, with those on the first floor positioned under console brackets.

Inside, the building retains an open-well staircase that rises the full height of the structure, located against the west wall of No 130. This staircase features turned newels and a handrail, with a design that is echoed in the dado panelling of the walls. The closed string stair is fitted with barley-sugar turned balusters. Each upper floor also contains one early 19th century fireplace with a cast-iron surround and grate.
