Description
Long Lane Farm Cottages are farm cottages dating from the late 18th century, with features that incorporate elements from a 17th-century structure. They are built of brick in both English and Flemish bonds, topped with a tiled roof that has a brick dentil cornice. The cottages form a rectangular block, with each unit designed in a two up and two down plan, standing two storeys high and featuring a three-window range. The original front elevation is now at the rear, and there are segmental-arched openings. An external stack is located on the right gable end, while a square ridge stack is positioned in the party wall between numbers 87 and 89. The windows of number 85 retain a twelve-pane casement design that is original to the building. Inside, there are corner fireplaces in all rooms, although some are boarded over. The stair area is separated from the north bedroom of each unit by panelling that appears to predate the structure. Most of the bedroom doors feature richer mouldings than the panelling, and they are fitted with HL and butterfly hinges that suggest an early 17th-century date.
