Description
The monument to John Crosier, who died in 1801, is located about ten yards north-west of the chancel of St Giles' Church. It is made of Portland stone and features a tomb chest with a pyramidal cover, topped by a fluted urn on a square plinth. Each corner of the tomb chest has a shouldered design. The railings that once surrounded the tomb are no longer present. The short inscription concludes with the couplet: "Praises on Tombs are Trifles vainly spent/ Man's Good Life is his Best Monument." At the time of inspection, the monument was in very poor condition, suffering from weathering, vegetation growth, and exposure of cramps, which has caused extensive cracking.
