Description

Capel Nelmes is a rambling house of three main periods, largely presenting a late 19th-century appearance. A 16th-century rear wing exists, alongside a late 19th-century front block, with alterations and additions dating to the 1930s and 1940s. The construction is primarily brick, with sections tile-hung and incorporating half-timbering, all beneath tile roofs. The house is two storeys high. The early 17th-century staircase, reportedly transferred from Capel Nelmes in the early 20th century, consists of three flights with turned balusters. The rear wing, originally a stable block, dates to the 16th century, constructed of red brick that has been extensively repaired, and features an old tile roof. Modern windows are present throughout, with the exception of a two-light attic window with a moulded frame, inset into the east gable. The upper floor of the rear wing displays exposed beams.
