Description

Kenton Library is a public library built in 1939 by W T Curtis and H W Burchett from the Middlesex County Council Architect's Department. The building is made of brown brick and features a flat roof. It is a single-storey structure with a three-storey central tower and has an L-shaped plan, including a central issuing desk and reading rooms in each wing. The square tower has two small projections on the south-east corner, one made of brick and the other glazed. Both wings are illuminated by tall metal windows, and the entrance hall is lit by an east wall of glass bricks.

Inside, the library retains its original staircase, issuing desk and screen, and bookcases. The main reading room benefits from both side and top lighting through circular perforated openings. The library is recognized as a good example of the architectural style adopted by the Middlesex County Architect's Department after 1933, influenced by the work of Wittem Dudok in Hilversum. It stands out for its bold geometric design and the preservation of internal fittings, contributing a distinctive architectural presence to the London suburbs.
