    1. Red brick building of 3 storeys, attic and basement, 6 bays, somewhat irregular. High pitched, gable ended tiled roof with lower fringe of shallower pitch continuing around gable ends which are tile hung above. 5 large, tile hung, gabled dormers, almost touching. Window arrangement slightly different in each dormer. Tall, rectangular brick chimneys. Front varied. Bays one, 5 and 6 have shallow, canted, 3-window oriel bays through 1st and 2nd floors. Below, in 1st bay 2 1-light windows; in bay 5 a 3-light and in bay 6 a 4-light window. Bays 2 and 4 have 3-window canted bays through whole height of building, abutting on inner side on bay 3, which is slightly forward of main wall plane and arcaded with 3 recesses through 1st and 2nd floors. One window in each recess. On ground floor centre, 2 large entrances for engines, with stone jambs and tiled hood. These encroach on inner sides of canted bays, which are cut to 2 windows on ground floor. One plain door in 2nd bay from left. Left basement windows small and square with cambered relieving arches over. Right basement windows lunettes. All but a few ground floor windows-have lintels of layered tiles, and most have cambered relieving arches. All are casements with horizontal bars. Built by ICC Architects' Department, Fire Brigade Branch, including Owen Fleming, CC Winmill and W E Brooks.
