Description

153-159 Woodhill is a group of four early 19th-century houses constructed of multicoloured stock brick, with the two central houses being taller. They have low-pitched, hipped slate roofs with exposed eaves soffits.

No. 153 is a two-storey house with a basement, featuring a single window. It has sash windows with glazing bars set in stucco-lined reveals, each with a gauged, flat brick arch. The front door is of three panels, with a glazed upper panel, within a panelled reveal and a reeded architrave. A trellis porch, accessed by three steps, is positioned at the front.

No. 155 stands three storeys high with a basement and has two windows. Its sash windows, similarly set in stucco-lined reveals and featuring gauged, flat brick arches, include coloured margin lights on the ground floor. The front door is a three-panel design within a panelled reveal and a moulded architrave. A wooden frieze and cornice are situated above the doorway.

No. 157 is architecturally identical to No. 155.

No. 159 is a two-storey house with three windows. It has sash windows on the first floor with glazing bars, within stucco-lined reveals, each with a gauged brick arch. Later 19th-century sash windows are present on the ground floor. A modern central door is set within a panelled reveal and a reeded architrave, with a modern hood over the entrance.

Together, numbers 153 to 159 form a notable group.
