Description

A row of cottages, numbered 4 to 14, was built in Enfield Lock between 1854 and 1858. The cottages are constructed of Flemish bond brown brick with gabled Welsh slate roofs, and have brick ridge and end stacks. They are arranged with double-depth plans and have two storeys, featuring a 42-window range. The windows are 12-pane sashes with horns, and are set within gauged brick cambered arches. The doors are 4-panelled. Raised bands emphasize the storey line and eaves. Rear wings have hipped roofs and 12-pane sashes. The interiors remain unexamined. These cottages were built to accommodate workers at the Royal Small Arms Factory. They are included on the heritage list primarily for their group value with other nearby buildings.
