Description
Angel Place is a mid-18th century building located on the west side of Fore Street in Upper Edmonton. It consists of three linked blocks, with the two southern blocks featuring six windows each and the northern block having eight windows. The structure is two storeys high with an attic and has slightly set back, two-storey, one-window linking bays on either side of the blocks. The roofs are tiled or slated mansard types, equipped with round-headed or flat dormers. The exterior is made of brown brick, accented by a cornice band and a parapet. The sash windows, mostly with glazing bars, are topped with gauged red brick arches. The northern block has a rendered front. The entrances feature six-panel doors, some of which have been altered, set within Roman Doric doorcases that include a triglyph frieze, dentil cornice, and open pediment. Some doors have patterned fanlights. The doorcase of No 187 is Ionic, while No 195 features a pediment on consoles above its doorway. Nos 185A and 187A are created from the links between the blocks. Notably, No 183 has had its left outer bay removed for road widening, and the wall has been repaired using flettons.
