Description
The main up side building and down side island platform at Hanwell Station were constructed around 1875 to 1877. This station features significant platform canopies and ironwork, particularly on the central platform. It is believed to incorporate part of the original Brunel station from around 1840, although this is uncertain unless the cast iron columns supporting the up side are reused from that earlier structure. Hanwell Station is notable as the least altered example remaining from the general station rebuilding in the 1870s, which was prompted by the quadrupling of the tracks. The up side building is made of grey brick, while the island platform is constructed of iron and wood, with both elements being nearly complete.
