Description

75 Highview Road is a house built in 1924 using the Duplex Sheath Construction System by the Duplex Sheath Construction Company of Moorgate. It features a light steel frame made of I section members, which is covered by two sheaths of steel lathing, one on the inside and one on the outside, with cement render applied to both outer faces, creating a cavity wall. The roof has a semi-circular frame of similar construction, using angle section members, and there are brick chimney stacks.

The exterior consists of one storey and an attic with a two-window range. The central half-glazed door is set in a narrowly projecting porch with side lights that have stained glass. There are late 20th-century top-hung casement windows on either side. A projecting band at the first floor carries the steelwork for the floor. The semi-circular roof showcases the raised curves of the steel frame and has a bitumen covering. Two dormers are fitted with twin timber casements that have glazing bars, consisting of a narrow fixed element and a wider opening part. There are external gable-end stacks on the north and south sides.

The rear elevation features a mid-20th-century plate-glass three-light window to the left, along with a quadrant-section coal bunker from 1924 made of the same construction as the house. To the right, late 20th-century French doors lead into a late 20th-century conservatory. There are three attic windows; the one to the left is original and matches the front casements, while the other two are late 20th-century replacements.

Inside, there is a straight-flight staircase that bifurcates at the top landing, and two-panel doors are used throughout. The fire inserts and surrounds in the east room have been replaced or are missing, and the ceiling joists are boxed rolled steel.
