Description
The Church of St John, built in 1875 by Edwin Henry Horne, is a Grade II listed building located on Mattock Lane. It is constructed of yellow stock brick with gault brick and stone dressings, designed in the Early English style. The church features a nave with a clerestorey and lean-to north and south aisles. At the west end, there are four light lancets and a lean-to three-arch west porch situated between nave buttresses. The church includes north and south transepts with triple lancets and a substantial battlemented crossing tower. The chancel is highlighted by a triple lancet east window.
